sroniYup. Officially engaged, as of last night.
We looked at rings on Monday, and I fell in love with one. Squirreltail and I decided yesterday to go get it, and he'd hold onto it until the right time (I'm pretty sure he was holding out for Valentine's Day, which means I lost ten books in the pool. Oh, well). We spent the evening at dinner, and a movie (Avatar, LOVED IT), and then we were driving to a friend's house, on the highway or interstate or whatever, and he says, "Marry me." Me: "Okay." Beat. Beat. Beat. "Did you just ask me to marry you, or were you just saying that?" Because that's something we do. He'll say marry me, I'll say okay, we go on with our conversation. But there was something different about his voice this time, and I could tell it wasn't our normal interchange.
Sure enough, it wasn't, because it was followed directly by an incredibly romantic proposal that I can not remember for the life of me because all that was going on in my head was, "Oh, my gosh, he's proposing! EEEEEEEEE!" And, of course, me waiting for the right moment to say, "Yes." I was listening, I swear, but... words didn't stick, apparently. It was something like, "*insert full name*, I love you, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you, until we're old and in rocking chairs beside each other. I would be proud to have you as my wife. Will you do me the honor of marrying me?" But I can't tell you for sure what came in which order, other than the, "*insert name, I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you".
I called my mom, and let her be the first to know. We told his family today. They weren't surprised.
I'm excited!
