Xander had just laid down on his new bed when Faith burst through the door. He could tell, even though his eye was closed and he was becoming well acquainted with the inside of his eyelid, because she was muttering about “damn witches who need to learn how to stay out of other damn people’s damn business” before yelling at him. “Cyclops, get your ass up and go talk to Scarlet right now!”

He groaned, but got up, keeping his eye closed a moment longer. “What do I owe the pleasure —” He opened his eye and started laughing. She just glared at him until he managed to speak. “I’m guessing that’s why you want me to talk to Will?” She nodded, her lips pressed tightly together. “How did she manage to do it?” She shrugged. “Okay, what happened?” She told him about the conversation through gritted teeth. He ran his hand through his hair. “Well, I can see how that made her mad.” She glared at him again, and continued to pace around his room. “Not that I agree with her for doing it, just saying that I get why.” He back pedaled quickly. He really didn’t want to end up being goo on the wall.

“Well, go talk to her and tell her there are more grown up ways to solve a disagreement with someone than to turn my hair green!” He started to laugh again and she snarled at him.

“Sorry, you just look really cute.”

She jerked to a stop and spoke in a low voice. “I am not a puppy. I am not cute.”

He heard the warning. He cocked his head a little. “Actually, you look hot. Part of it is, you’re just plain hot, but with the hair? Wowza.”

She threw a pillow at him good-naturedly. “Why can’t you ever be serious?”

“What makes you think that I’m not?” he asked quietly. What? Yeah, Faith was hot, but … what? He didn’t normally babble about how hot a girl was to her face … okay, yeah, he did. But he was trying to not think about Faith and her hotness factor, which totally wasn’t working.

She seemed to get a little shy, and he knew it wasn’t an act. “You think I’m hot?”

“Uh …” His brain struggled to catch up with his mouth. “Yeah. You’re like, the hottest girl I’ve ever met.” His mouth was still about ten steps ahead of his brain.

Her grin spread wider. “Hottest girl you ever met, huh?” He nodded, wondering what the hell she was up to now. She swaggered over to him (like Faith ever didn’t swagger; that would be another sign of the apocalypse). “I can live with that.”

He grinned his patently goofy grin. “Even with green hair?”

She nodded, still coming up to him until there was no more space between them and she was right up against him. “Yup. Even with green hair.” Then she kissed him, a hot, smoldering kiss that promised of fun, sweat, and moans. His mouth was still way ahead of his brain, and his brain had given up the hope of ever catching it. He just didn’t care anymore. She tasted like licorice and blueberries, two things that shouldn’t go together, but for her, did. He gripped her arms with what would be bruising force if she were anything but a Slayer, and pulled her in tighter, releasing her arms and snaking one arm around her, and tangling the other hand in her hair. They bumped their way over to the bed.
