Honestly, the Slytherins have always fascinated me. I know that we're told that Snape cheats so the Slytherins can win, but we hear it mostly from Gryffindors. It occurred to me that maybe he's simply trying to even the playing field, giving his House points that were unfairly taken away from them, giving them points they're not allowed to get anywhere else.
Dumbledore had a lot to worry about. I don't think that any of his actions were maliciously intended. But I don't think he ever really stopped to think about how things like Harry's first end of school feast would effect the Slytherins who'd had no warning.
