Day 6
In your own space, rec at least 3 fanworks you thought you wouldn’t like (because they weren’t your fandom or they pushed against your boundaries or you thought you just wouldn’t be interested) and that you ended up loving.
First one that popped into my mind is “The Bloody Stare of Mars”, by Yahtzee. I didn’t want to read Snape/Hermione. It’s Snape/Hermione! But I read it because A) my dad recommended it to me and B) it’s Yahtzee. (Not sure if there are any warnings applicable; I haven’t read it in a while.) I periodically re-read it, but it’s not a story to undertake lightly, since it is decently long. Nowhere near the longest fanfic I’ve ever read, nor even the longest that I’ve been part of writing, but it’s substantial, at just over 35k words.
Second is a Harry Potter/Buffy crossover, “The Eighth Weasley”, by Fyre. It didn’t have pairings that squicked me, or anything. It just … Okay, here’s the summary: “Willow Rosenberg finds out just who her real family are, in all their red-haired, not-exactly-wealthy-but-making-up-for-it-by-numbers glory.” And my first reaction to that was, “Gosh darn it, not every singly redhead is a freaking Weasley!” However, this was up on Draconin’s rec list, and that makes me more likely to read a story.
Third is yet another Harry Potter story. Sorry, I really do like to try to spread these out in the fandoms, but for whatever reason, these are the stories that are in my head. “Backwards with a Purpose”, by Deadwoodpecker. The pairing is Harry/Ginny, and I know it’s canon, but I still hate the pairing. The other pairing is Ron/Hermione, and again, I know it’s canon, but I hate the pairing. But the story here is darn good.
